Dear Kyle,
Wow, you’re six years old today. Happy Birthday! I am just beyond thankful to see how amazing a boy you have grown: Gentle to your baby brother, sweet to me and dad, and kind to yourself and your friends! I am also proud to see how much you enjoy your school and how brilliant you are in your class!
So what’s our favorite line again these days? ” I’d like to document it here so that we can always get back to it even when you’re all grown-up. It goes this way: I’d start our endearment with, “Whenever I am with you, my heart is… ?” and you would finish it by saying, “Full of love!” Yup, Mom’s heart overflows with love because of you; keep that in your heart today and in the years to come.
Funnily, you no longer want to have the usual party I prepare for your friends in school because, as you put it, “Mom, school parties are just for the small kids. I’m a big boy already.” And you are because you know what you want! Still, this day is going to be special even without a party: You’ll have your favorite spaghetti for breakfast, we’ll go to your preferred toy store and playground, and then next weekend, we’re going out as a family. (Yup, we’re granting all the birthday wishes you excitedly wrote last week! Hooray!)
I also have my wishes for you. I’ll say them in prayers, son because wishes do come true through Him.
I pray that you’ll grow up to be a rich man. Rich in faith, friends, talents, wisdom, loved ones, and heart. I fervently pray for you to enjoy the richness of having deep faith in God because that will sustain you in whatever situation you’ll be in. With God, your heart will always be content and joyful, so take the time to know Him more.
I pray for friends who are God-fearing, who are fun to be with, who will be loyal to you, and will be always there for you. There’s nothing like having and being with true friends, son, so if you’ll find them, cherish them.
I pray for God to bless you with a kind, loving and wonderful wife who will help you raise beautiful kids. And as you find the wife that God will bless you with, I pray that you will love and honor her dearly.
I pray for you to have a brilliant mind, and I pray that you will have the willpower to excel in your chosen field. I pray for a career where you can use your gift, a career that will bless you to provide for the needs of your family. May you live in abundance and be a blessing to others.
I pray for health. That you will not experience all the pain that I’ve gone through in my past three surgeries. I pray that you will always have a sound mind and a healthy body, son. Take good care of yourself. Always think positive, excercise, and eat healthily.
I pray for your heart. That you will have a heart soft for the poor and for those that will hurt you. I pray for a compassionate, forgiving, and loving heart.
I pray that you will forever be a great brother to Trey. Love him, son, as you love yourself. Always be there for each other.
And while you are this young, I pray for an awesome childhood. Even a “big boy” should enjoy playing with his cousins and friends. Enjoy running and giggling around. Enjoy learning and going to new places. Just enjoy life!
Lastly, I also pray for myself and your dad. I pray for long life, long enough to raise you till you and your brother are ready to live on your own. I pray for wisdom and guidance so that we can always bring light to your life, so we can lead you in the right way. I pray for strength so we can always protect you. I also pray for God’s provision so we can send you to school, provide for your needs, and give you a comfortable and abundant life.
Happy 6th birthday, my firstborn. I wish you more birthdays to come!
Loving you dearly,
Mommy Khaye
