Today on the blog is the crafty mom behind the crafts shop “Crafty Hattie“, the brand born out of love, with a purpose to help. Meet mommy Lei Garcia, the mom who made several parties crafty and stylish! And oh, if your kiddo is celebrating his/her birthday soon and would like to host a mini party at home, you might want to join our giveaway raffle (right below the interview) because we’re giving away a mini set of party supplies!
Okay, now on to the interview!
Khaye: Tell us a little about yourself.
Lei: I’m Lei, a mom who loves crafts and DIYs. When I was young, I loved collecting stationery and stamps! I also enjoyed playing ‘pretend’ tea parties with my Barbie dolls. So when my husband and I were brainstorming for a business, selling crafts and party supplies was the first thing that came in mind!
Khaye: Give us a glimpse of the brand Crafty Hattie. How did you come up with the idea of establishing such an awesome store?
Lei: I’ve always been a fan of making something out of ‘nothing’. Or adding that extra ‘chemical x’ that would produce amazing results. For example, the used boxes that are practically garbage, cover it with paper books or add some washi tapes, and that garbage turns to something again. And for parties, using paper straws vs normal straws liven things up the party and gives your visitors a unique experience.
Crafty Hattie is born out of love for crafts/diy-projects, with a purpose to serve. We sponsor kids via World Vision Philippines, and we also have a weekly feeding program at House of Prayer in Roxas City.
Khaye: You have mentioned that you have established Craftie Hatie because you wanted to help more. Mind to share your story with us?
Lei:Prior to establishing CraftyHattie, I’m already a sponsor of the World Vision Philippines program and a weekly feeding program called House of Prayer in Roxas City. But part of me, wished to contribute more. I wished to sponsor more kids, but my household income didn’t permit me to do so. And there’s also the thought, “How can I sustain sponsoring World Vision PH and the feeding program?” That’s the reason why I’ve established Crafty Hattie.
Khaye: Why did you choose to sell party and craft supplies?
Lei: I chose to sell party and craft supplies because I’m a sucker for DIY parties and projects! I love looking at DIY parties photos usually held abroad and a part of me wishes that I could host that party too. But the problem is, the party supplies that I like are not that readily available to us. Same with washi tapes too! Come May 2013, I started looking for suppliers until I finally found the right products with high quality.
Khaye: Any advice to our fellow moms out there who are planning to establish their own business, too?
Lei: Follow your passion. Take the first step. I know a lot of us have been dreaming to have the business that never materialize because we have lots of what ifs or buts. Also, choose a business that you see yourself doing for a long time.
Khaye: Thank you so much mommy Lei! We wish your business more success!
