What do you love about summer? Let me guess. If you’re a mom with school kids, you love summer because your kids stay at home most of the time now thus you have more bonding moments with them. And, most likely, you also love summer because of all the fun activities that you can do together as a family! (Think: beach outings, home-made halo-halo, swimming and all the summer fun!) Great news, we have another fun family activity to introduce to you which you can do right in your own home– the Monde Mamon-It-Yourself!
Last April 5, the Macalinaos headed to Yardstick in Makati for a special family day. We were invited by Monde Philippines to a family bonding activity. It was at that day that the Monde Mamon-It-Yourself was also introduced to us. Oh how we loved it! My two boys and I enjoyed decorating mamons together! My wonderful discovery? We all love creating our own artsy mamon masterpieces!
The event was a get-together of families. Moms, during the program, learned some Mamon-It-Yourself basics!

I’ve learned how to make my own frost (I’ve shared frost-making steps at the bottom of this post) and to decorate mamon using the frosting, hurray! Frosting isn’t that hard, all you need is a piping bag (or you can create your own by folding a parchment triangle) and a piping tip. Then spoon your frosting into the bag and press down the frosting gently to get rid of air bubbles. Now you are ready to add swirls to your mamon by piping out your frosting using even pressure!

Grace Barbers-Baja, the mom behind the Spoiled Mommy blog, was also there to share her own version of healthy Mamon toppings and sandwich. Best of all, she shared her own concoction of spoiled Mamon, composed of her favorites put together as toppings: peanut butter, chocolate, and strawberry!
I would also just like to mention that the venue was full of Pinterest-worthy displays!
If you’re following me on Instagram, you may have seen some pictures of me and my son Kyle doing craft activities together (posted with the hashtag #learningwithmom). I love doing arts and crafts with the kid, it’s our bonding activity (and I always secretly wished Alex could join us too). So when it was time for us to decorate Monde Special Mamon as a family, I was very happy because finally, we can indulge into something creative together!

A wonderful, wonderful experience together. Here’s my family funnily indulging in this new mamon-decorating venture!
Monde Special Mamon is not just your favorite fluffy mamon (made with real fresh eggs, high-grade wheat flour, and milk). It’s like a blank canvass, awaiting to be filled in with colors. And that’s exactly how we decorated our Mamon… yes, we had “burst of colors” as the décor theme, and spelled out our son’s name! It was a fun and learning activity for the kid!
After the Monde Mamon-It-Yourself bonding, the kids presented their surprise for their moms. My son secretly decorated a mamon backstage together with other kids! Not only that, they also played a video that melted my heart. Kids were asked why they love their moms. My Kyle said, “Because she hug(s) me… because she sleeps with me!” Awwww! And when my two boys appeared on screen saying, “I love you, mommy Khaye!” I was thisclose to crying! I was so touched!!!
Here’s the heartwarming video:
Softening moments by enjoying the little things. That, my friends, is the key to a happier family. Let us then create wonderful memories together and enjoy the moment, like we did! =)
