When I just gave birth to Trey, aside from the well wishes and congratulatory messages I received from family and friends, there were also remarks like, “Welcome to puyatan (sleepless nights)!”
Moms all around the world share this challenge of getting their babies to sleep and of course, stay sleeping through the night. Studies indicate that the rate of sleep problems among babies is high (about 20-30 percent). This is worrisome because sleeplessness in our babies does not only challenge us moms, it also impacts the healthy development of the little ones.
I remember how difficult it was for my baby to fall asleep, and to sleep through the night. You know it, when our babies are awake at night, even our own sleep pattern is disturbed. And when we are tired, we can’t function well. When we can’t function well, we can’t provide the best care to our dear baby.
So on my baby’s third month,as soon as his sleep rhythms begin to develop, my husband and I introduced a bedtime routine. It was just simple and everyone at home was consistent. At 7 o’clock, I would give him a warm bath. Then, we would go to our bedroom, dim the lights, play a soft song, and pat him to sleep.
The First Clinically Proven Bedtime Routine for Babies
Establishing a bedtime routine is one important thing we can do to help our babies sleep well. Funnily, the recent event that I attended by JOHNSON’S® themed as, ‘Tonight We Sleep’, was all about this. JOHNSON’S® has launched a clinically proven Bedtime Routine that can help baby fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, in three easy steps, pretty much like the routine we have for baby Trey:
- BATH. A warm bath helps baby know its time to sleep.
- MASSAGE. A massage using lotion like Johnson’s bedtime™ can help baby sleep better. Familiar and pleasant scents can relax the baby and enhance his mood and emotions.
- QUIET TIME. Quiet time helps baby wind down. Activities, such as reading, singing or listening to music can calm the baby. Complementing quiet time with products to freshen and keep baby feeling comfortable while sleeping also helps.

When baby sleeps, mommy sleeps too! Bianca Gonzalez has openly shared her struggles in managing and securing her baby’s sleep patterns and development at the event.
Tonight We Sleep™ App.: Grounded in Science
As part of the nightly routine, JOHNSON’S® also launched the BEDTIME® baby sleep app. This app is designed to equip parents with information on how to ensure longer and better sleep for their baby. The app is now available for download in countries around the world so be sure to get it outright.
