This week, my husband and I are traveling with our five-year-old boy and baby. Yes, that’s right. We’re having a few days off from work and school because we’re flying to a wedding that we can’t afford to miss!
But you know it, travelling with kids is not the easiest thing to do, neither packing their stuff is! Honestly, I get overwhelmed where to start. And because I function better when I keep everything listed, I started my packing with a checklist– just to be sure I won’t forget anything for my kids and myself! And because I also love creating graphic organizers to share on the blog, you’ll get the free printable packing-for- your-trip checklist I used at the end of the post!

I listed the items we needed to put in the diaper bag which we will be carrying with us in the plane (and wherever we go). My list isn’t that long, I only included all the essentials for that light and perfect diaper bag!
- Diapers
- Diaper disposal bags
- Wipes
- Burp rag
- Full spare outfit for baby
- Nursing cover
- Packed baby food
- Hand sanitizer
- Spiffies (Because he’s currently teething and he’s relieved each time he uses this)
- Small toy
Should you want to create your own list, how about writing them onto a sheet like this one?
What are the kids’ daily essentials?
The next thing that I packed are the clothes, toiletries and accessories that both of my children will be using for our four-day trip, their medicine kit included! Again, I started listing down the items they needed.
Some tips when packing for a travel with kids:
- Buy some brand-new, and inexpensive toys that are easy to pack and include them in your hand-carry bags to serve as surprises for long trips (like small cars)! They will be excited to play that toy which will make them still and seated! This works great when having toddlers or grade school kids!
- Put your baby’s clothes in zip lock bags (each in complete set) to keep your bag organized! (Remember that travel you had last time? That time when the older brother looked for a particular shirt and opened your luggage and in a snap, the bag was a complete disaster? That’s my story! Hahahaha!)
What to pack for yourself?
Finally, I packed for the items I needed. The checklist for myself is just simple as shown in the image below. My husband packs his own (in a very OC manner) so I don’t have to worry what to put in his luggage. =)
Things to Remember When Packing for Your Trip
There are of course a few things to remember when packing for your trip. Consider the following:
Who is going?
You know it, when travelling with an infant you can’t afford to miss any of their essentials! What if you’ve missed the wipes and your baby suddenly pooped? Nightmare isn’t it? When travelling with a toddler on the other hand, on top of all their basic needs, it’s always a nice idea to bring small toys (to prevent boredom) and some snacks (because their small tummies get hungry easily!)
Where are yo going?
In our case, for example, we’re attending a formal occasion. Aside from the daily clothing that we will be needing for our side trip on a sunny weather, I shall not forget to pack my gown, and of course the little ones’ suits!
When are you going?
Checking out the weather for your destination in advance is always necessary to know what to include in your luggage!
How about you? Do you also make a list when you go on a trip or you just wing it? Should you need a list, get the ones I used here!
