The typical scene during fiestas would be people crowding in the streets, drawn by the sound of a marching band, eager to see the “star” of the celebration. In this Domex video entitled “Fiesta” however, the “star” was neither a movie celebrity nor a politician, it is an unlikely, yet very much welcome sight—a new, clean toilet facility.
The “Fiesta” video shows how underprivileged Filipinos welcome the “arrival” of clean toilet facilities in their communities. “The video aims to make people realize the value of a toilet which most of us, unfortunately, take for granted,” said Dennis Chua, Domex Brand Manager.
It’s heartbreaking to know that 7 million people in the Philippines do not have clean access to toilets. And according the Department of Health, there are 3,420 diarrhea-related deaths among Filipino children under 5 every year… around 2,000 of this number could have been prevented by access to safe water, improved toilet sanitation and personal hygiene.
I am then inviting all of you to watch this beautiful video produced by Unilever Philippines to contribute to the efforts of Domex’s One Million Clean Toilets Movement for the construction, repair and maintenance of toilet facilities. Each unique view translates into a pledge for the campaign which collects pledges from households to conscientiously maintain their own hygienic bathrooms for the advocacy campaign. For every pledge received, Domex will donate P5 to UNICEF’s sanitation program!
