When travelling with kids, booking the right hotel is your very first step to a successful vacation. Book wrong and you can end up overspending and feeling exhausted. Book right and you’ll have a fun, memorable, enjoyable and blissful trip for all the members of the family.

While I can book a hotel room for my husband and me in a matter of minutes, finding a hotel when the kids are with us usually takes me quite a while. I do a bit of research, I check actual photos of the hotel, and read reviews on the web. I am pretty sure you are just like me when it comes to booking family rooms—picky. But of course! Moms like us can’t afford to risk the family fun!

Here’s what I look for when booking a hotel when we travel with the kids!
Location, location!
Before I book any hotel, I make sure to consult Google Maps first. Is it located near the destinations my family is planning to see? Is it near reliable public transportations? To be honest, I am so particular with this that I even call the hotel in advance just to be sure! After all, I know that picking the right hotel in the right location can really mean a FUN vacation!
Dining Options
There should be a good on-site dining restaurant (with kiddie meal options) at the hotel because going out to eat with your whole clan after a long day of travel isn’t always an easy thing. Facilities such as in-room fridge and microwave oven will be great as well!
Room Size
My rule of thumb for this is the more time we plan to spend in the room, the more space we require. (Us being a family of four is considered, too, of course!)
Bathtubs
Do they have bathtubs? One of the items that I check when it comes to room amenities is the availability of bathtubs. Because we travel with a toddler, a bathtub is a must! You know how it’s like bathing a toddler in a shower? It’s like catching a slippery fish!
Indoor or Outdoor Playground
Although I can let go of this, if I see this when I book a hotel, it’s a big plus for me! But why, when my kids are bored, I can take them at the playground and they can have fun instantly!
Kind in the Pool?
Can the kids swim in the pool, too? I would love to spend some hours for a family swim!
Price
Of course, the price is one big factor in choosing a hotel for the family. Gladly, there are sites that we can now use to book like Traveloka where we can find great hotels with discounted deals. I like it there because they don’t charge a booking fee and that the price you see as you book is exactly what you pay!
One more travel tip, as you book, do not assume that expensive is best! I have discovered that there are already a lot of great value hotels that can deliver what a family needs!
